Originally called Holton, located in Imperial County along the border with Mexico, Holtville was originally settled in the 1880’s by Swiss-German settlers and the town founded in 1903.  The name change request came from the U.S. Postal Service because the town’s name sounded too much like Colton in San Bernadino County.  The bank charted in 1910 survived the National Banknote era and has a population in the Census of only 3 Large and 13 Small notes.
