$20 National Currency 1929-T1 Ch#7015 - 1st NB, Sparta, IL - PMG 20

Sparta is located in Randolph County southeast of St. Louis.  With a name any collector would love to have in their collection evoking ancient Greek City-State and its lore.  Sparta, IL continued to create lore after WWII when it became “Magazineland U.S.A” due to numerous printing facilities and produced most of the mass market comic books in the US.  In years following comic book distributors had their warehouses located around town.  Notes from the First National Bank of Sparta seemed to be popular through the years with 32 small notes having survived to be reported in the census along with 13 large.
